      About Wright, Henry Anthony
HENRY ANTHONY WRIGHT was the second child of Elizabeth Mace Thompson and James Lawrence Wright. Henry farmed and ran a grist mill in the vicinity of Eugene, Missouri. He was one of the pioneers of the Spring Garden Community about 11 miles north of Tuscumbia, MO. OBITUARY Miller Co Autogram April, 1916 Henry A. Wright passed from this life at the home of his son, Arthur M. Wright, at Eugene, Mo., April 9, 1916, aged 69 years, 4 months, and 15 days. He was born in Cole County, Mo. November 24, 1846; was married to Minerva Jane Melton May 15, 1865. To this union were born three sons and five daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter who died at the age of 16 months. His funeral services were conducted by Brother J. M. Baker and interrment was at the Eugene Cemetery. In 1965 at about the age of 19 years he united with the Christian Church and was an ernest worker in the cause of his Master whom he loved to serve with unfaltering faith and devotion. The life he lived was an example of true devotion to his Master and the cause he espoused. As a father he was as tender and gentle as he was strong: as a husband he was loyal, loving and true: as a friend he was courteous, generous and faithful. Heroic in the sublime faith he had in Christ, he did not fear death, but looked upon it as the entrance into Glory Land where all God`s children shall dwell in the beauties and joys of the eternal morning. His wife and faithful companion, who is a helpless invalid, being cared for by her loving daughter, Mrs. Fannie Simpson, could not attend his funeral. All the rest of his family were present except his daughter, Mrs. Vesta Hinds, of Oklahoma, who could not be notified in time to come. During the latter part of his life, on account of ill health, he was deprived of the privilege of attending public church service which he felt was a duty. The writer has know him for many years and enjoyed his fellowship, and can testify that his life was truly consecrated to the cause of his Master, and while he did not gather a great fortune of this world`s good and his name did not become famous, yet he leaves with his waiting companion, his sons and daughters, a blessed memory of a life`s work well and faithfully done, which should point them to this Christ whom he loved. The following is a song which he composed and sang about 25 years ago: The following is a song which he composed and sang about 25 years ago:
      Oh Christians we are gathering
      >From near and from far
Our time we're devoting to life's
      greatest way.
      In this conflict of life
A bright crown we will win,
      If we'll follow our savior,
      we'll triumpth over sin.
      Chorus;
Oh Jesus the Star of my soul's
      brightest light,
Oh help me to love Thee
      With all of my might.
Oh Jesus the Star of my soul's
      brightest light,
Oh help me to love Thee with all of
      my might.
      Let's assemble now together

Henry Wright was considered to be quite an accomplished farmer, and that he was (I believe) the first in Miller County to set out a stand of Mapletrees, `to see if he could get them to grow.` My mother before her death often recalled the `sugaring time` that she had experienced on her Grandfather Wright`s farm. She also had very fond memories of the hams that were `put up` on his farm (on which she was born, in a house now torn down, alas). She also spoke of hearing her Grandfather Wright say that from the front porch of that house, he could stand and look out and see the smoke rising from the chimneys.
