Brixius / Coulter Family

The Brixius family had very little information about their ancestors. My aunt had begun a family news letter and had enter a few things that her grandmother had passed down. I took this small amount of information and with the help of several cousin's found information on the Brixius and Coulter families and several of the other related families. Peter Brixius was born in the small town of Ensch, Rhineland, Germany. He immigrated to America Feb. 28, 1871. He settled in Aurora, Kane Co., Illinois, where he met and married Mary Dorthea Reiss on Oct. 9,1876. In 1879 they moved to Creston, Platte Co., Nebraska with Marys parents Jacob and Mary Ann Reiss. They were the parents of eleven children. They lived on a farm north of Creston and as a part of their income Peter and the boys went on horse back to Montana to round up wild horses. They brought the horses back and took them to Omaha to sell to the US Army. Their eighth child was my grandfather George Brixius, he was born Sept 27, 1889 in Leigh, Nebraska. George went to Battle Creek, Nebraska with his uncle George Reiss and this is where he met Faye Marie Coulter. George and Faye were married on Jan 20, 1914. Faye Marie Coulter was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on Nov 23, 1896. She was the daughter of Ivan Coulter and Emma Grant Lewis. The Coulter family came to America from Ireland. They were considered Scotch-Irish because they were from a migration from Scotland that took over a section of Ireland. The Coulter family first entered the US in Delaware and then moved to Pennsylvania and moved west into Ohio and finally settling in Iowa. They were intermarried with the Speer, Lewis, Durbin, and Braddock families.
